Volero Zurich are competing in the FIVB Club World Championship for the fifth time, following three years of hosting the event in Zurich and last year's appearance in Manila.
In all four previous appearances Volero made it to the bronze medal match, but only stepped up on the podium in 2015, when they beat Rexona-AdeS Rio de Janeiro 3-0 for third place. Last year Volero lost 3-1 to VakifBank in the bronze medal game.
The club was founded in 1973 and has dominated the women's volleyball scene in Switzerland for the past decade. Since claiming their first national title in 2005, Volero have won the Swiss championship and the Swiss cup a total of 11 times each.
Volero's best finish in the European Champions League was a fourth place in 2007, when they lost in the bronze medal match to Spain’s VC Tenerife. They are competing this year in the FIVB Volleyball Club World Championship for the fourth time. After two unsuccessful attempts to win a place on the podium, they beat Brazil’s Rexona-AdeS Rio de Janeiro last year at home in Zurich to claim the bronze medal.
