Zhu, Hill power VakifBank to second win

 

Zhu Ting scored 19 points to lead VakifBank Istanbul in their 3-1 win over Rexona-SESC Rio

Kobe, Japan, May 10, 2017 – Zhu Ting and Kimberly Hill fired-up VakifBank Istanbul’s offence to beat Rexona-SESC Rio 3-1 (25-17, 25-15, 20-25, 25-15) and gain solo leadership in Pool A of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship at Green Arena Kobe on Wednesday.

Zhu and Hill scored 18 points apiece to help VakifBank secure a berth in the semifinals. Lonneke Sloetjes and Milena Rasic fortified their team’s offence and defence with 16 and 10 points, respectively.

Drussyla Costa, Gabriela Guimaraes and Juciely Barreto managed to notch double-digit outputs for Rexona-SESC Rio against the tough net defence of their rivals. Their Turkish counterparts outscored them on all fronts with 51-45 blocks, 19-5 blocks and 6-2 aces.

VakifBank’s offence immediately clicked as their scoring trio – Zhu, Hill and Sloetjes – unleashed a barrage of attacks that aided them to take the first two sets. Rexona-SESC Rio managed to snatch the third set but could not make a complete turnaround in the fourth set as the VakifBank wall got tougher to penetrate.
