Rykhliuk leads Volero Zurich to stun defending champions

 

Volero Zurich's Olesia Rykhliuk scored 16 markers in their stunning 3-0 win over defending champions Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul

Kobe, Japan, May 9, 2017 – Olesia Rykhliuk led Volero Zurich’s huge 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 26-24) upset on defending champions Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul in Pool B of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship at Green Kobe Arena on Tuesday.



Rykhliuk scored 16 points built on 15 attack winners and an ace, while Tijana Boskovic made 17 point for Eczacibasi on a losing effort.

Volero Zurich took advantage of their solid blocking and attacking against their Turkish rivals, which led to solid finishes in the first two sets. Rykhliuk got help from team-mates Kenia Carcases Opon and Foluke Akinradewo, who scored 13 and 11 markers, respectively.



Eczacibasi still felt the struggle but got the break when Volero Zurich hit out of bounds and gained advantage 23-22 in the third frame. Rykhliuk was superb on her attack game that helped Volero Zurich tie the game at 24-all. Jordan Larson made a costly error as she was caught overreaching, giving the Swiss club the 25-24 edge. Finally, Akinradewo completed the sweep from a slide hit to clinch set and match 26-24.
