Moscow wrap up Russian championship

Moscow players celebrate winning the Russian Super League

Lausanne, Switzerland, April 29, 2017 – Dynamo Moscow were crowned Russia Super League champions after they defeated Dynamo Kazan 3-1 (27-25, 14-25, 30-28, 25-21) on Saturday to give themselves an unassailable 3-1 in the best of five series.

It completes a remarkable turnaround for the team from Moscow’s capital who lost the first match 3-0, but then won the subsequent clashes 3-1 and 3-2.

“Today was a special day,” Moscow coach Yury Panchenko said. “We said before the match that if we did not win, it would be hard for the girls to go back to Moscow.

“We showed great desire to win. It wasn’t the most spectacular volleyball, but it was a final and it is clear that you do what you need to do to win.”

The championship victory will also fill them with confidence before their participation at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship that takes place from May 9-14 in Kobe, Japan.
