Monique, Drussyla chart twin 19-point outputs for Rexona victory

Monique Pavao had an all-around game with 13 spikes, four blocks and two aces to help Rexona-SESC Rio win over host club Hisamitsu Springs

Kobe, Japan, May 9, 2017 – Monique Pavao and Drussyla Costa paced Rexona to a 3-1 (25-16, 20-25, 25-16, 25-21) win over host club Hisamitsu Springs in Pool A of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship at Green Arena Kobe on Tuesday.

Monique and Drussyla charted a pair of 19-points for the Rio de Janeiro-based squad and got more scoring support from Gabriela Guimaraes and Juciely Barreto, who added 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Hisamitsu Springs had triple 14-point scoring efforts from Risa Shinnabe, Nana Iwasaka and Yuki Ishii, but was still outscored by their rivals. Rika Nomoto contributed 11 markers.

Drussyla’s attack game prevailed early on in the match as Rexona got a commanding 25-16 win in the first set. However, Hisamitsu Springs took advantage of Rexona’s loss of focus to snatch the second set win at 25-20. Hisamitsu could not contain the Brazilian rampage, as the latter involved more of their players in the scoring picture to record 25-16 and 25-21 victories in the next two sets.
