Eczacibasi aim for Women’s Club World Championship three-peat in Kobe

Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul will go for the unprecedented three-peat win in the FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship

Kobe, Japan, May 7, 2017 – Turkish club Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul are in their third consecutive stint and are going for a possible three-peat win at the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship in the city of Kobe from May 9 to 14.

A third triumph would further raise the status of Eczacibasi, after their back-to-back winning feat, which is already unprecedented in the tournament's history.

In 2015, Eczacibasi recorded a 3-1 win over Russia’s Dinamo Krasnodar in Zurich. They added a hard-earned 3-2 triumph over Italy’s Pomi Casalmaggiore in Manila the following year.

The Istanbul-based club will go all-out to defend their stronghold at the pinnacle of women’s club volleyball competitions with an almost intact line-up composed of international stars Tijana Boskovic, Jordan Larson, Rachael Adams, Maja Ognjenovic and Tatiana Kosheleva - only missing Brazilian middle blocker Thaisa Menezes.

However, the road to achieving this goal is tougher with seven teams rising to the challenge.

Past podium finishers Vakifbank Istanbul, Volero Zurich, Osasco Volei Clube, together with hosts Hisamitsu Springs, reigning Asian champions NEC Red Rockets and reigning South American champions Rexona Sesc Rio, Russian League winners Dinamo Moscow are also in the chase for the 2017 crown.
