Boskovic sparks Eczacibasi triumph to secure semifinal spot

 

Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul cruised to the semifinals of the FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship with a straight-set win over NEC Red Rockets

Kobe, Japan, May 12, 2017 – Tijana Boskovic ignited Eczacibasi’s solid run on offence to defeat NEC Red Rockets 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-16) and secure the last semifinals spot in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship at Green Arena Kobe on Friday.

Boskovic steered the Eczacibasi offence, as she drilled 17 attacks and an ace. Hande Baladin and Jordan Larson helped out with 12 and 10 points, respectively. The Turkish club edged their rivals with 51 kills, almost amounting to their rivals’ total point output of 60 points.

Haruyo Shimamura finished with 12 points, including three blocks. The Japanese middle blocker had some great moments in the match as she denied some of the best attackers in the world, but the team’s lack of firepower prevented them to overcome their much stronger rivals.

NEC Red Rockets gave Eczacibasi a hard time in the first two frames with their excellent defence, but the latter’s attack game still prevailed in the end game. Eczacibasi kept their momentum that enabled them to mount a huge cushion in the third set. Finally, Tatiana Kosheleva delivered the match winner with a powerful hit.
